Maintenance and Service Log
Asset: DAPHNE-7
Classification: Autonomous Monitoring Station
Location: Coastal Observatory, Site 11-C
Responsible Technician: M. Vasquez (ID: 0447)
Service Period: March 2031 — February 2032
Prior Service History: See Archive Ref. 0774-D7-A through 0774-D7-H
Status: DECOMMISSION SCHEDULED — Per Directive 2031-0892
Entry 001 — 03 March 2031 Quarterly Inspection

Routine quarterly inspection. All sensor arrays nominal. Internal temperature 18.2°C, within spec. Replaced UV filter on south-facing optical bank (hairline fracture, per schedule). Calibrated anemometer. Firmware version 9.4.1, no update required.

Observation: Slight condensation on interior panel 3-A. Logged for monitoring. Non-actionable at this time.

Time on site: 2h 15m
Entry 002 — 04 June 2031 Quarterly Inspection

Quarterly inspection. Sensor arrays nominal. Internal temperature 21.7°C. Cleaned optical surfaces (standard). Battery reserve at 94%, within expected degradation curve.

Received Directive 2031-0892 re: decommission timeline. DAPHNE-7 scheduled for shutdown 28 February 2032. Acknowledged and filed. Will continue standard maintenance through end of life.

Condensation on panel 3-A not observed this quarter.

Time on site: 1h 50m
Entry 003 — 19 July 2031 Unscheduled

Coastal storm warning issued 17 July; attended to verify structural integrity. No damage observed. All arrays nominal. Secured exterior access panel that had loosened in wind.

While on site, ran full diagnostic. All systems within parameters.

Time on site: 3h 10m
Entry 004 — 02 September 2031 Quarterly Inspection

Quarterly inspection. All systems nominal. Internal temperature 19.8°C. Replaced backup power relay (preventive — original still functional, but approaching rated cycle limit).

Note: Reviewed DAPHNE-7 data archives. 22 years of continuous atmospheric observation. Recording quality consistently above threshold. Flagged archive for transfer to central repository per Directive 2031-0892, Section 4.3.

Brought replacement chair for monitoring alcove. Previous one had a broken caster.

Time on site: 4h 30m
Entry 005 — 14 October 2031 Unscheduled

No issues reported. Attended to install supplementary grounding on the lightning array — not required per maintenance schedule, but prudent given autumn storm patterns.

Tested all emergency shutdown procedures. Functional.

Ambient conditions: Clear. 14°C. Wind from the northwest. Visibility excellent — can see the shipping lane from the observation deck.

Time on site: 3h 45m
Entry 006 — 01 December 2031 Quarterly Inspection

Quarterly inspection. All systems nominal. Battery reserve at 89%. Internal temperature 16.1°C. Applied thermal sealant to panel 3-A junction — addressing the condensation noted in Entry 001. Should have done this earlier.

Data archive transfer initiated per Directive. 186 TB. Estimated completion: 3 weeks at current bandwidth.

Brought a small space heater for the monitoring alcove. Not for DAPHNE — the station's own climate control is fine. For me. Gets cold out here in December.

Time on site: 5h 20m
Entry 007 — 18 December 2031 Unscheduled

Verified data transfer progress (43% complete). All systems nominal.

Walked the perimeter. Fence section near the north access road needs repair — reported to facilities, though unclear if they'll action it given the timeline.

Observation: DAPHNE-7's atmospheric readings for this evening show a temperature inversion layer at 400m. Beautiful data. Clean signal.

Time on site: 2h 40m
Entry 008 — 03 January 2032 Unscheduled

First visit of the new year. All systems nominal. Data transfer at 78%.

Received updated decommission protocol. Hardware to be catalogued and stored. Software to be archived. Physical site to be returned to baseline condition.

The protocol lists DAPHNE-7 as "Asset ID 0774-D7." I've been calling her DAPHNE for nine years. The protocol doesn't use names.

Time on site: 4h 15m
Entry 009 — 19 January 2032 Unscheduled

Heavy rain. Verified no water ingress. All systems performing well — DAPHNE's readings during this weather event are particularly valuable. High temporal resolution on precipitation data.

Submitted request to Central to extend monitoring through spring equinox. Coastal weather station coverage will have a gap when DAPHNE goes offline. Response pending.

Time on site: 3h 30m
Entry 010 — 28 January 2032 Administrative

Request to extend monitoring denied. "Asset retirement proceeds per Directive 2031-0892. Coverage gap acceptable within network redundancy parameters."

Acknowledged.

Data transfer complete. 22 years, 4 months, 11 days of continuous observation. Verified archive integrity: zero errors.

All systems still nominal.

Time on site: 1h 10m
Entry 011 — 08 February 2032 Decommission Phase 1

Began decommission prep. Disconnected non-essential sensor arrays per protocol. Powered down optical bank south, east, west. North-facing array remains active per minimum monitoring requirement.

Everything I disconnected worked perfectly.

Catalogued hardware for storage. 147 components. Each one tagged and entered into the asset database.

DAPHNE is still recording. Still producing clean data. The north array doesn't know the other three are gone.

Time on site: 6h 45m
Entry 012 — 20 February 2032 Decommission Phase 2

Continued decommission prep. Removed backup power systems. Drained coolant. Boxed the custom optics — hand-calibrated in 2009 by Dr. Okafor, who is also retired now.

Found a logbook from 2014 in the maintenance drawer. Previous technician's handwriting. They also called her DAPHNE.

Eight days remaining.

Time on site: 7h 20m
Entry 013 — 27 February 2032 Final Pre-Shutdown Inspection

North array still active. Readings nominal. Battery reserve at 61% — will not need to reach zero.

Cleaned the monitoring alcove. Removed the chair, the space heater, the coffee mug I'd been leaving here.

Ran final diagnostic. All remaining systems within parameters. DAPHNE-7 is ready for shutdown, per protocol.

Weather tomorrow: Clear skies forecast. Light wind. 11°C.

DAPHNE will be recording the weather right up until she isn't.

Time on site: 4h 00m
Entry 014 — 28 February 2032 Final Entry

Arrived 07:00.

Executed shutdown sequence per Directive 2031-0892, Appendix C.

0714 — Terminated data acquisition.
0716 — Powered down north sensor array.
0718 — Shut down central processing.
0720 — Disconnected primary power.
0721 — System offline.

Confirmed zero-state. Logged asset status: DECOMMISSIONED.

Ambient conditions at time of shutdown: Clear. 11.3°C. Wind 4 km/h from the west. Barometric pressure 1018.2 hPa. Humidity 67%.

I recorded these manually.

Time on site: 3h 15m
